Understanding Hoopla Changes
Thanks to the growing popularity of Hoopla, Bossier Parish Libraries has determined the need to make the following changes effective December 1, 2025.
- Limit of 10 borrows per month per cardholder
- Collective daily borrow limit (or budget cap)
What does this mean?
When using Hoopla, you may see this message, "The collective daily borrow limit set by your library has been reached and will reset at midnight. Please browse and add titles to favorites so you can easily access them after midnight."
Don't worry! It just means we've hit our budget for the day for all patrons. Any titles you try to borrow will be available the next day when the limit resets. Don't forget that Hoopla also offers flex borrows, which are not affected by the daily limit. Find these by browsing the "Popular Flex" sections under Audiobooks and Ebooks.
Why make this change?
Libraries all over the country are having to make tough decisions regarding their Hoopla service. Over the past several years, the costs associated with Hoopla have risen significantly. As a pay-per-use service, they charge the library a certain amount that varies per item every time an item is checked out. This pricing model then makes the costs unpredictable and difficult to budget. Creating daily caps and reducing monthly title limits allows us to stay within our designated budget while still offering this popular service.
