BPL is having a party at the Tooke Memorial Branch; a Solar Eclipse Watch Party on Monday, August 21st. The library is located at 451 Fairview Point Road, Elm Grove. This event is free and open to all ages.
The so-called Great American Total Solar Eclipse will darken skies all the way from Oregon to South Carolina, along a stretch of land about 70 miles wide. People who descend upon this "path of totality" for the big event are in for an unforgettable experience. Read more about the eclipse here.
Party details posted on BPL Facebook state, “While we will not be experiencing a total solar eclipse in Bossier Parish, we'll still have an opportunity to watch the moon take a huge chunk (0.83magnitude) out of the sun.”
The schedule of events is as follows:
- Start of Partial Eclipse - 11:46am
- MAXIMUM ECLIPSE - 1:17pm
- End of Partial Eclipse - 2:46pm
Tooke Branch manager Mary Sanders says, “Attendees will receive eclipse viewing glasses and can participate in free activities such as: cookie decorating, scavenger hunt, chalk art, making wind streamers, making solar nature prints, and UV bead bracelets. Food and snacks will be provided at the party. Again, it is free admission and kid friendly.”
If you want to plan way ahead, the next total solar eclipse in North America will be April 8, 2024. It will not be as spectacular as 2017 because it will cover fewer states, so enjoy this amazing solar event.
