Welcome to the Technical Services Department. While there are four of us doing Technical Services work, you will rarely see any of us. However, that book, CD, or DVD you have in your hand was selected, ordered, invoiced, received, and preprocessed (barcode and property stamp) by part of the technical services team. From here the item is sent to the Cataloging Department to create a bibliographic record. The item is then returned to Technical Services, where a call number label goes on the spine so you could locate your material on the shelf. If the item should become damaged or lost we will see what can be done to repair it, maybe reorder it, or when necessary, remove it from the collection. So, think of us, the team behind the scene, the next time you check out something from your library.
