Delbert Terry
BPL Director
I am a Louisiana boy through and through. I was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1963 and have spent the majority of my life in Louisiana. In 1981, I graduated from Northwood High School and then moved to Ruston to attend Louisiana Tech University. In 1985, I begin attending East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry and Art. ETBU was also the place where I meet my wife Ranee.
I begin working in Libraries in 1990 in Mansfield, Louisiana at the Desoto Parish Library. I started as the Reference Librarian but eventually became the Branch Manager. In 1994, we moved to Houma, Louisiana and shortly after, I began working for the Terrebonne Parish Library. It was while working at Terrebonne that I began my studies in library and information science at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana…home of the only two-time BCS National Champions. I received my Master’s in 2001. While living in Houma, we were blessed with a son who we named Noah.
In July of 2001, I became the Director of the Natchitoches Parish Library. During my time in Natchitoches, I assisted the library in moving into a new location.
In April of 2003, I was offered the Assistant Library Director’s position at the Bossier Parish Library. In April of 2007, I was offered the job as Director of the library.
I love libraries and feel that our main purpose is to assist in making reading fun. I feel that it is our responsibility to introduce the love of reading to every resident of Bossier parish. Each and every day, staff are researching, designing and implementing pathways that will hopefully capture that desire and passion for reading.
Not only am I the director of the library, I am also the pastor of the Blanchard Church of the Nazarene in Blanchard, Louisiana. I love fishing and the great outdoors. I am a HUGH fan of Louisiana State University football and of my son Noah. On your next visit to the library be sure to drop by and say hello!
