Heather McEntee
BPL Assistant Director

I’m originally from Lancaster, NY which is a suburb of Buffalo.  I attended the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in History.  I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with that degree and since I didn’t want to go into teaching, I decided to go onto graduate school at UB and received my Master’s in Library Science.

When I graduated from UB, I found that library jobs in Buffalo were very limited.  Fortunately, I found a temporary librarian position at the county medical center and was able to gain experience in collection development and cataloging.  During that time, I got married.  My husband, Brad, worked at Delphi, a supplier plant for General Motors.  Brad and I were fortunate enough to spend our honeymoon in Rome and Venice, Italy!

Four months after Brad and I got married, we were given a chance to transfer to Louisiana through Brad’s job.  Two months later, we were selling our first house, packing everything we owned and driving 1300 miles away from the only home we ever knew.  Moving to Bossier City wasn’t as difficult as it could have been though.  I have family that live in Bossier and that helped us tremendously.

Thankfully, the economy in Shreveport/Bossier wasn’t like the Buffalo economy and I found a job quickly.  I was hired as the Genealogy Librarian for Shreve Memorial Library, Broadmoor Branch.  While I was there, I gained valuable experience as a supervisor.  I loved my job there and found ways to promote family history and public libraries through creating the Genealogy Department’s first newsletter and having a Family History Day during the Family History month of October.

In 2005, while still at Shreve Memorial, Brad and I were blessed with our daughter, Emilie.  Emilie loves growing up in the library and is very fond of reading!

In 2007, an exciting opportunity came up and I became the Assistant Director of the Bossier Parish Libraries.  Being the Assistant Director has been a wonderful experience and I am enjoying serving the residents of Bossier Parish!
